Happy New Year and A Prosperous 2008!

Date January 1, 2008

All I can say is this… there’s lots of things thats going to happen in 2008 and you’ll bet there will be more and more products being launched in the affiliate marketing arena. What I’d like to share is this.

“In whatever you do and work on, let it be work which you can identify with and at the sametime still be able to spend precious time with your loved ones”

2007 is the past and I get this strange feeling where 2008 will mark the year that things even in the affiliate marketing arena will change for the better. Perhaps for marketers it will be a little difficult but nevertheless the ethical ones will keep on thriving.

You’ve seen a lot of hype and false hopes being paraded around the net. One product which costs you $17 - $197 should not be the “Big Break” that you always hoped for. These tactics worked but not anymore, consumers are getting more and more informed.

Actually my real rant is this. There’s so much salesletters, blog posts and also opinions about how to make money online but the only one you can really trust is the ones who are NOT declaring how much they’ve earned online.

I mean seriously, even if the real figure was posted would you actually believe them? Precisely, also it is pretty rude to ask someone or any marketer in that sense “how much are you earning?”. Say you had a job and you’re sitting with a colleague of yours whom is just an acquaintance.

Are you going to say, “hey [insert any name], how much are you earning every month?”

You’re beginning to understand how much tension it puts between you and your newfound friend right? Okay, maybe both of you even feel a little odd for about a few minutes.

Oh, that reminds me… let me interrupt this post a little.

On the other side of the coin, if any marketer or “guru” tells you how much they are earning.. I can bet you that they either are just hyping up their popularity or plain telling you that they earn more than you and you should listen to them. Be cautious.

There was one time I was waiting to take the subway train with one of my buddy after a seminar and this guy (next to my buddy, who came along as well for the seminar) claims he’s the “PPC expert” or something.

Then, guess what he told me he’s earning, “$5000 a month now via various PPC and stuff” then he says, “how much are YOU earning?”… well, when I checked with my buddy he turned out to be earning much… much less than that and doesn’t know much about PPC.

How lame can one get?! That really felt odd to me at the instant I found out. So, who can you trust and listen to. For one thing, you can do this:

I like the fact that you can read a lot of articles online in different article directories and still be able to pick up some useful stuff about how to make money or market online.

Still, the final verdict on how you will attain your financial and marketing goals in the year 2008 will be determined by your application of knowledge. Market wisely and only choose to listen to those whom you trust. Above all, remember one more thing.

People change overtime and you only REALLY get to know someone from constant communication with that person. Your business relationships is a powerful factor to your online marketing business growth.

Above all…. Happy New Year and May Your 2008 Be Filled With Abundance Prosperity!

    Dear Vern,

Happy New Year and I believe you will have lots of great successes in 2008!

I am very glad to hear the ranting of an internet guy about all the hype out there in the online world. Most are paddling their “if such a dork like me can do it with $5 and zero secondary school education and still rake in $50,000 a month” e-course or system. I like what I hear from your blog and agree wholeheartedly that CONSTANT communication is the key.

This is my resolution for 2008. Consistency and discipline.

    All the best and worst.

    with gratitude,

    Hi Bruce,

Looking forward to a New Year. Its weird sometimes the thoughts that creep into your mind when you’re doing something insignificant.. like brushing your teeth.

Honestly…. honesty is very rare today in the Internet marketing arena.

Not that I don’t condone good copywriting, I just think its time to really translate good value products and then offer it to the reader. Instead of just trying to make a ‘quick buck’ and move on.

After all we’re all in this for the long term income.

    All the best!
    Vern

    Well said,

I would prefer that we combine good copywriting for good value products or services. That will be superb!

I think copywriting is salesmanship in print. The best Salespeople are always having the highest regard to their clients and does their utmost to build trust and relationships. Thus our writing has to be for the client and show forth the benefits and laying out the cons. in the end it is to deliver lasting value that people are willing to exchange their hard earned money for.

Though I am but a beginner, I very much believe in your simple philosophy.

    with gratitude,

    Hey Vern,

I have been studing IM for 1,5 year now and also
bought a lot of products, mostly to learn.
And I now feel ready to do and take action
    on what I have learned.

I also found a lot of hype out there and do understand
that one need a blueprint to follow and from there
develope during the time one use the blueprint and
    expand.

Many of the products I bought did not tell everything
and it was something that was missing in my
learning curve. In this way I had to buy another
product to fill in the missing link and in this product
it was another missing link and so on and on.

It took me 1,5 year to find a whole concept that I
understand and now I have so much understanding
about IM and are not so easy to con.

This cost me a lot of time and money, but I am
glad for all things I learnd during this time and now
    I am ready to go.

    Warmly,
    Ulla H

    Sorry Bruce,

I took this for granted that I am ready go to make the year of 2008 to a successful business year. I know it has taken me a long time to start. But better late than never - a Swedish saying.

    Cheers,

@ Bruce - thanks, at least I feel like I’m not the only believer here in my blog. LOL! Anyway, what I meant was that because of the 1.7 years I’ve spend marketing and making lots of mistakes… I’ve seen how some people actually use copy just as a means to make a sale and nothing else.

This in itself is pretty alarming where it is clearly a misuse of trust. Also, it is pretty obvious to you if for example your friend suddenly changed his attitude for the worse. Boastful perhaps and bragging about his achievements. You wouldn’t feel comfortable around him any longer.

Reputation can be destroyed in an instant.

@ Ulla - Make this year a year of change for you. If I don’t see you commenting much here then you must be busy taking action ;) In anycase, just post here on this blog and we’ll all help you out.

Note: my abilities are limited too… so if there’s anything I can do I’ll be sure to but I have to give way to other experts who know better. That being said, I’m still learning abot copywriting…

    Vern,

The pen is really mightier than the sword. I am a student of copy and truly believe that writing good copy has a purpose to inform and not mislead. Granted, many times we need to bring up the hype to get people to listen, but to use this power to mislead and trick just to get a sale is shortlived. You can trick people once, twice, even three times. After that they leave and you have lost a client.

For me, integrity and honest living is what I believe in.

    with gratitude,
    bruce
