How To Boost Your Website Conversion - 3 Quick Tips
January 12, 2008
Seriously, I have a lot of respect for copywriters who write copy for a living. They have a burden to find out the details of what the client does and how to communicate to their market by doing some research.
Personally, I have done keyword research, market research (mainly in forums and discussion groups) plus some advertising tests. It is really a lot of work I tell ya. Not just word-wise but graphics-wise. Getting started in writing copy is not as easy as it sounds so that is why I decided to make this post to help others get to a quick start.
Here’s some tips to help you boost your sales conversion (at least by 5%) if you’ve not already done this.
Quick Tip 1: Using “Color Themes”
You see this everywhere. In the shopping mall, bus stands or even in restaurants. Basically there is no limit to the usefulness of using the right color themes.
For instance, normally in your sales copy or website, they call it “white space” or just using a kind of additional space between two paragraphs. Did you know that you could improve your conversions by making your entire website background white in color?
Try it and test it out. People may feel more comfortable and at easy when they see a white background and tend to stay longer on your website. Just long enough to read your headline and the first paragraph.
Its enough.
Quick Tip 2: Sometimes More Is Better
Its quite the opposite of what some marketers will quote but really, I’ve tested and sometimes if you describe more details, your visitors will want to find out more.
Like in your headline if you put, “find out how a 18 year old kid makes tons of cash online”. Okay, you got a slight hook there but its not tempting enough.
Rephrase that to make it more precise and descriptive for the reader to their benefit like this,
“Discover A True Story Of How An 18-Year Old High School Drop Out, Makes $1,297 Worth Of Sales Onlne… In Less Than 24 Hours!”
Its not a very uncommon headline but you could see that we nailed a few things. Such as we know the person is a high school drop out. Who is able to earn $1,297 totally online and in record time which is 24 hours or less.
Your reader will definitley be able to identify and develop a sense of curiousity to find out more about the full story.
By the way, please do not lie to your readers unecessary unless you can prove them the validity of your statements. Reputation is crucial.
Quick Tip 3: Pictures Build Trust In 3 Seconds
In case you haven’t noticed most good converting websites have a picture of the author or of some people that is related to the product or services being offered. You can create a sense of “trust” almost instantly by putting up a photo of yourself.
Just a simple portrait of yourself will do.
Watch your conversion rate go up as you put your picture on your web page. Why? Well, we are naturally, people of little faith. The term, “seeing is believing” still holds true today.
Of course, it also helps the reader to imagine that you are looking at them and talking to them instead of to some “mysterious visitor“. Its the fastest way to developing a personal touch between you and your reader.
Before I go, these are not just tips I’ve learned myself but from results of testing together with my mastermind group. Also, some additional resources can be dug up from trusted article directories like ezinearticles.
Have a great weekend!
