Something I Think You Should Know

Date January 3, 2008

Wow, its almost 3am here and I’m not really asleep yet. Just putting the final touches on my new website copy for a better looking name squeeze page.

That means I gotta do some of my own research about copywriting on the go as well. Before I end off the night there was quite an amazing discovery that I made. You might have seen this trend coming too but it didn’t seem to obvious to me until 10 minutes ago!

Have you seen the recent rise of the “young rich marketers“? I’m not talking about the 20+ year olds. I’m talking about the ones who are 18 and below…

At the ‘tender’ age of 28 (my age) I already feel a little old can you believe that? There are kids at the age of 15 making something like $10,000 and above online. There was this guy I read about in a post at the Warriors Forums (his name was Donny I think).

When I visited his site it was plain simple but there was an interivew posted too and something that went somewhere along the lines of the website brokering business. Pretty smart if you ask me.

Its like real estate brokers but much more lucrative and faster in terms of money making. Call it the virtual property industry ;)

Without turning this into just another rant, here’s something to ponder about.

  1. Are you making the most of your work day? No really, I mean your 3 hour marketing slot?
  2. What do you do during your work slot?
  3. Do have a plan or activity to focus on or are you surfing all over the net?
  4. Do you implement what you’ve learned and keep at it?
  5. Do you have contacts or freelancers to help you in other technical areas?
  6. Do you have a business you can rely on to build you a fortune in the future?

Just a few questions to chew on as we move along in the new year. Its still January so there’s lots for me to post about. Then again, I wish I was exposed to affiliate or Internet marketing when I was in high school… time really waits for no man… or woman.

    Hi Vern,

Believe it or not, I feel the same way half the time! Even at 19, I’m surprised by these “kids” :)

    Dear Vern,

I thought of this virtual property brokering sometime back but did not know enough to do anything about it. Thanks for the insight…got me thinking.

Let me share something I learnt sometime ago which was what kept me from wasting time and making the most of my productive hours. There has been conclusive research done; that the average executive or even top execs do about 1 to 1.5 hrs of productive work in any given working day. Productive meaning, networks, product developing, marketing, JVs…etc. Projects that involve making money.

All other time is with dealing with BS that occur around the office. As one who has moved through the ranks and seen large corporate behaviours, I can attest to that. Many a time it was “you buy my BS and I buy yours…”

What changed for me and really got me excited was when I started to look at my time in direct proportion to my pay on an hourly basis. And realised why is was so easy to slack during work. Even though I was sitting in a meeting listening to BS, I was still getting paid! Wow! Why work? Just play politics!

I am leaving this madness. I now only eat what I hunt.

    with gratitude,
    bruce

@ Rach - You’re only 19?!! It makes me feel like I was born in the year of the dinosaurs. LOL. In anycase, let me to find the link to the interview then at least everyone can read a little bit about this guy.

I have got respect for the “young guns” of the Internet mainly because they’re so young and yet have such a knack for business.

Then again, it gives hope to anyone who wants to start a business online. The Internet levels the playing field for any age group!

@ Bruce - Firstly, thanks so much for your contribution and your inspiring story. There’s surely a lesson to be learned there. I don’t disagree with what you have shared because people stop working hard when they get their needs met.

Erm, you got paid for listening to BS? That must be both a pleasure and a pain where you have to listen to such nonsense ;)

I’m going to take this discussion to another path… imagine if all of us where to use just 1-2 hours of ‘real productive’ work every 5 days a week for a solid month? Pretty interesting results I would say.

… Oops I’ve not done my article task for today! Yikes! Will come back later ;)

    Hi Vern,

You are right!! How is it that i didn’t discover internet marketing when i was in poly days ?? If i were to did that, maybe i would be a rich kid by today… Why is it that everyone (almost) in singapore is pursuing a certification and hoping that they could end up in a big copperation, earning a big fat paycheck yet complaining and complaining this is not enough, that is not good… blah blah blah… Maybe LKY did too good a job to ensure people got a roof over their heads and a rice bowl secured. Now, LHL is trying to cultivate an entrepreneur environment. Hopefully, in times to come, there will be more business-minded people than job-hoppers or career-loyalists. Cheer and take care.

@ Larry - Its not that education isn’t good for you. Its just that I believe everyone has that special “wake up call” at different stages of their lives. We are all unique in our own ways.

I have a lot of respect for people who hold a job as well because this shows that they got some skill or valuable talent that they could do in anyway.

    Why do I say this?

For one, see those spammers that spam you with useless sexual enhancement stuff? Most of the time 99% of these people could be people who aren’t good in english or some sort of skill and they can only resort to spamming.

    Sad fact, huh?

In Donny’s case he just decided to operate a business that fits his passion. Also, he had support from someone like his dad.

Now where is that darn URL??!

sigh… I’ll post in the next post of update this one soon. But no promises!
